Minecraft 1.20 for Pocket Edition Download Process: File Size, APK Link and More

The long-awaited Minecraft update Trails and Tales 1.20 has arrived on all compatible platforms as of June 7, 2023. This includes PC, console and the mobile version of this game, still known as Pocket Edition by many fans. No matter what device players use to play this sandbox title, they can immerse themselves in the content of Trails and Tales right away.

While this update is available on all currently supported platforms, downloading and installing this patch will involve a different process depending on the device being used. For example, the Pocket Edition requires players to automatically update their Minecraft client or do it manually.

The process of installing Minecraft on mobile is largely similar to console and PC. However, there are a few separate factors at play that are worth looking into to ensure players can update their game quickly and effortlessly.

Download, install and/or update to Minecraft 1.20 on mobile devices

The PC version of Minecraft, its Java and Bedrock editions, can use many applications to keep up to date. This may involve the official launcher of this title, the Microsoft Store or the Xbox PC Game Pass. However, mobile devices run on small executable files.

For Android devices, players technically install what is known as an Android Application Package (.APK) file to apply updates to a device. While these files can be downloaded from third-party sites outside of Mojang’s purview, the developers consider this to be a violation of their terms of service. Furthermore, there are inherent risks in downloading APK files from unofficial sites.

On iOS devices, most applications are updated through the use of .IPA files. However, software piracy is strongly opposed by Apple, and most of these files are handled automatically by the Apple App Store instead of forcing users to manually update their applications.

Fortunately, as long as players have a legal copy of Minecraft on Google Play or the Apple App Store, they can quickly update Pocket Edition on their devices in just a few taps. In fact, there’s a good chance this game will automatically update itself, as long as players haven’t disabled auto-updates on their device.

How to upgrade to Pocket Edition 1.20 on Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store and search for Minecraft in the search bar. Also, you can search the top games list or go to the URL https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mojang.minecraftpe to find the store page for this game.
  2. If you already have the game installed and its update 1.20 hasn’t been applied yet, simply tap the Update button on the store page. After a few moments, the update should finish (with a working internet connection) and you can exit the Google Play Store and enjoy the game.
  3. Alternatively, if you want to opt out of the app page search, you can open the Play Store, tap your account picture in the top right, and select “manage apps and device”.
  4. Afterward, simply tap the “update all” link, which should bring Minecraft to version 1.20 after other apps have been fixed. Alternatively, you can tap “view updates” and specifically select the game from the list of available updates.

How to upgrade to Pocket Edition 1.20 on iOS

  1. If you have automatic updates enabled, open the game to make sure the latest update hasn’t already been installed. If not, you may get a notification to go to the App Store to do this before running the game. Otherwise, open the App Store yourself or go to this link to go directly to the store page: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/minecraft/id479516143.
  2. In case you haven’t downloaded the Trails and Tales patch yet, you should find an Update button at the top of the app store page. Simply tap it to start the update process, wait for it to finish and enjoy the game.
  3. Alternatively, to avoid searching for the game page, you can open the App Store and then tap your profile icon at the top. Scroll through the list of apps you can patch and select Minecraft specifically or tap “update all”.

Depending on the mobile device used, the 1.20 Trails and Tales update can be around 40-50MB in size, excluding the base game, which would bring the total to around 800-900MB. So, in case players have run out of their storage, they might want to do some cleaning.
